“Where Hip Hop Lives” is the story of Hip Hop’s past and present evolution through the lens of HOT 97, a transformative radio station and its annual Summer Jam concert that elevated the culture to once unimaginable heights. Back in 1993, HOT 97 risked it all with an unconventional programming switch from dance music to an all Hip Hop format, the first pop radio station to ever do so. The next year in 1994 it created an even riskier concert venture in Summer Jam which struggled to find a venue fueled by racial prejudice. Through this epic tale we witness Hip Hop evolve from an underground menace restricted to the fringes of the radio dial into a mainstream money maker and purveyor of pop culture. Told from the inside by the founders of HOT 97 and the architects of the culture, the audience is transported inside the music, rivalries, politics, fame, fortune, beefs, lives and untimely tragic deaths that played out on HOT 97 over the past 3 decades.
